Some of my friends know exactly what they want to do in life and I’m totally clueless! Does that mean that the road ahead will be more difficult for me? Is there anything I
can do to help me figure out what I want
to do with my life?

Dear Clueless:
You are actually not alone. Right now you need to focus on doing your best in school, participate in extracurricular activities which you enjoy and finally give back to your community through volunteer work. Now your focus should be on getting into the best college you can in order to keep all the doors open for your future. Even though some of your friends may seem confident on their life path, I can assure you they are the minority. Just because you are not sure what you want to do in life, it does not mean that the road ahead will be more difficult. Here are two steps you can take now:
1. Ask yourself what you enjoy and what you are good at. Also be honest in ruling out fields that you are not good at.
2. You can then start the process of determining what you want to do in life by putting yourself out there. You can do this by getting jobs or volunteering in venues you are considering as a career or life path. For example, if you are great with people, love food, and think owning a restaurant is something you may enjoy, you can get a job as a waiter/waitress. If you enjoy working with numbers, and accounting is something you are considering, you may be able to get an internship at an accounting practice. These experiences will help guide you.
Life is a journey where each step of the way will have important lessons. Don't cheat yourself out of the process by jumping ahead to the answer before you are ready. Take your time, don't panic, and try to take one day at a time. Relax, do the best you can each day and the journey will take you to the answer you seek.
